Hearst Corporation is one of the nation’s largest diversified media and information companies. George J. Green became a consultant to Hearst Corporation following his retirement as chairman of Hearst Magazines International (HMI) on June 30, 2009.
Green joined Hearst Magazines on April 1, 1984, as executive vice president/group publishing director, responsible for seven titles. He was named president of HMI when Hearst Corporation formed the unit in September 1989. At the time, HMI published 23 licensed editions of Hearst titles around the world. During Green’s time at HMI, it expanded to 200+ licensed or joint-ventured editions of Hearst titles in 55 countries in 34 languages for distribution in 100+ countries, equity positions in radio, television and web properties, and non-Hearst brands published through joint ventures — including FHM in Hungary and Romania, Madison in Australia, Men’s Health in China and the United Kingdom and Robb Report in China and Russia.
Green served as executive vice president of Hearst Magazines and vice president of Hearst Corporation, Hearst Holdings, Inc., and Hearst Communications, Inc. In 1996, he was elected to the board of directors of The National Magazine Company, Hearst Corporation’s wholly-owned subsidiary in the United Kingdom.
Prior to Hearst, Green was president and chief operating officer of The New Yorker Magazine, Inc., which he joined in 1962 as the most junior advertising sales person. His 22-year career encompassed nearly every phase of the magazine’s operations. He was named vice president in 1973 and elected to the board of directors in 1974 before being named president and chief operating officer in June 1975.
Green served as chairman of FIPP, the Fédération Internationale de la Presse Périodique, from 1991 to 1993. He was a member of the board of directors of Magazine Publishers of America (MPA) from 1976 to 2009, serving as its chairman from October 1981 to October 1983. Green is also a former board member of The Advertising Council.
He was the 1997 recipient of The Henry Johnson Fisher Award, which is the publishing community’s highest accolade and honors a magazine leader for significant and long-standing contributions to the publishing industry. In 1999, he was the recipient of The ACE International Publishing Personality of the Year Award. In 2004, he received the Marco Polo Award from the People’s Republic of China for his contributions to consumer publishing in China. It marked the first time a publishing executive received the Marco Polo Award.
Currently, he is a member of the Board of Directors of Hart Energy, a property of Wiegers Capital Partners, and a member of the Board of Managers of TruthInAging.com.
Green earned his B.A. at Yale University. He is married to Wilma H. Jordan, founder and chief executive officer of The Jordan, Edmiston Group, Inc.
Jeannette Chang

Jeannette Chang, Senior Vice President and International
Publishing Director of Hearst Magazines International is responsible for
overseeing international advertising and marketing for 285 editions of Hearts
Magazines International including Cosmopolitan, Harper’s BAZAAR, Cosmogirl!,
Popular Mechanics, Good Housekeeping and Esquire.
Chang was named to this position in March 2000, previously
having served as vice president and publisher of Harper’s BAZAAR since August
1994, and associate publisher of that title since June 1984.
Change joined Hearst Magazines in 1973 as an advertising
sales representative for Cosmopolitan. In 1977, she was promoted to fashion
advertising manager, and two years later moved to Harper’s BAZAAR as a director
of fashion marketing, until she was promoted to associate publisher.
Under Chang’s leadership, Harper’s BAZAAR US opened
international advertising offices in Milan and Paris, with sales
representatives in Munich and Tokyo. This foray into the international advertising
arena paved the way to her current position with Hearst Magazines
International, where she works primarily toward marketing, promoting and
supervising new launches and re-launches of Harper’s BAZAAR, Esquire and Town
& Country.
Chang is a frequent speaker before international trade and
business groups involved in the fashion and publishing industries. In 1992, she
was inducted into the YWCA Academy of Women Achievers. Chang is also a member
of the Board of Directors of the Fashion Group International, the Fashion
Institute of Technology (FIT), Pratt Institute and the Ovarian Cancer Research
Fund (OCRF).
A graduate of Hunter College in New York City, Chang earned
her Bachelor of Science while launching her publishing career at Scholastic.
